Jakub Ra is a visual artist living in Prague who identifies himself as a non-binary person. Director of the New Aliens Agency, creative director of the SOTC label, co-founder of the Fluido party and recently also part of the creative team of Helsinki Fashion Week. Jakub has long and intensively devoted himself to the body as the central phenomenon of his work.

He graduated from the High School of Art and Design in Brno, where he learned the classic craft of analog photography together with applied advertising photography. Already during his high school studies, he dealt with themes like self-portraits and the relationship between the human body and identity, along with the definition of beauty.

In 2015, he started to study at Academy of Performing Arts in Prague – FAMU, where he developed intermedia thinking under the guidance of Štěpánka Šimlová. Since 2017, he has been under the direction of Hynek Alt in the New Media studio, where he has improved conceptual thinking in hybrid projects. He was interested in relationship between technology and human body, postidentity and sometimes did 3D projects. At the same time this year, he co-founded the New Aliens Agency, where he became the head of the modeling section and created the complete visual of the agency.

Furthermore, in 2017, he was at Studio Vortex residency under the direction of Antoine d’Agata, where he consolidated his visual language and researched the theme of the human body as a living medium of everyday existence. In the summer of the same year, Jakub was preparing the first big solo exhibition abroad, in New York with the SOTC project. This year he also worked closely with the well-known singer Jana Uriel Kratochvílová. Together they created a video that was screen during her concert.
In 2018, he created a successful fashion merchandise for Jägermeister together with the MyDearClothing brand. He founded the label Sperm on the Clothes (SOTC) together with Michaela Mazalová in 2015, but in 2019 he took over the leading of the label himself and works there as a creative director. SOTC is a collaborative genderfluid fashion label. This year, his photo also appeared on the cover of FlashArt magazine. Jakub also deals with the topic of nightlife and the club scene, not only in photographs, but also in real life with live events, which he started organizing in Prague in 2018 under the auspices of an agency such as Alien Prayer Party, followed by the Fludio party with Markéta Vutru.

In 2019, he began working closely with singer Giudi, first with styling, visuals and photography, but later took also over the art direction of their music videos and also directed one. In the music industry, Jakub also collaborated with singers like Piqi Miqi or Bad Gyal.

In 2020, he completed an exchange program at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where he continued to work with themes like gender, social constructs, mental health and started to more document people from queer community. Also he was focused on video works under the direction of Alain Della Negra and Brice Dellsperger. In Paris, he met Evelyn Mora, who chose him as an assistant and invited him to join the creative team of Helsinki Fashion Week 2020, where he is mainly in charge of visual communication on social media and model casting.

,,His work is crucial in terms of carnal aesthetics and the discovery of new beauty. He is not afraid of internal structures, unknown contexts or extreme positions, so everyone who deals with body weight, physicality, and body survival in overcoming metaphysical being, spirituality, and transformation to the transcendence of bodily experience, should pay attention to his work.”Mgr. Peter Susan Sagat PhD.
